New! Samarah Live @ Euphony Fashion Show Mix
04.23.10

This is my first and only recorded live set available. This was my first performance in over 3 years and is a rainbow of the styles of music I've been dabbling in producing since:

Minimal Techno, Melodic IDM, Dubstep, Pop Ballads Covers, Drum n Bass, Ambient, Hard Techno, Glitchhop.

Most of these tracks on this mix are unreleased and many were written live as I performed and this will be the only recording and are one of a kind (good and bad!)

Swish Face Film "Frame" features song in soundtrack
02.23.10

This is one of those old news but good news diddies. Once upon a time, a lovely girl who I fondly know as "Swisho" more than her real name, Kristina Motwani, included a track of mine (Utopia - Falling Away) in an experimental video composition she created during college. She currently produces videos under the indie Swishface Productions. Check out her YouTube Channel for more.

Upcoming Performance March 27th in Madison.
01.01.10

My oh my, it has been over a year since I've played live, can you believe it? 2009 was like a hurricane that left little time for music making let alone hitting the road :-( I am in the process of completely revamping my live set up with new gear and am really excited get back on the wagon with new material! Click here for info on the when and where!

Matters of The Heart Scrapbook
01.01.10

First off, Happy New Year! I've had a wonderfully productive week launching the new website and organizing my thoughts in general, particularly musically. I've started compiling images that I have come across or thought about while writing this past week over on this Flickr set. Some are personal photographs, art I find online or inspirational people. I will also be scanning in notes and sketches and uploading photos during production, gear hunting, field recording and so on so I can have a bit of a visual documentation of how this album comes to be. The Music Section is Up With Lots of Goodies
12.28.09

Start harvesting here! I am out of stock of most physical CDs but you can download singles, full ep's and albums. If you make music, grab some free samples packs I've put together to toy around with. Excited to start putting more time into writing now and less on the website! There are also some great remixes available for free from Gate Zero, Multi-Panel, Fourrier, Kenny Laakkinen and more that are definitely worth adding to your library.

New Website, New Year, New Chapter...Good to Be Back!
12.16.09

Welcome to the new Samarah site...I've given it some much needed love, attention and clean code! If you have IE6 it's going to look jumbled until I have time to adjust the script for that outdated beast. It took me awhile to weed through about 6 years of old content, files, flyers and media for the long overdue purging and organizing. I've transfered most every review, photo, guestbook and website version on my hard drive now and all that reminicing brought such a flood of wonderful memories, people and places. =)

I've been working on my second full-length album, "Matters of the Heart" and feel really refreshed with the new approach I'm taking to my song writing. A lot has changed in my headspace as well as my hardware/software set up since I started pushing out and am really excited with the new sound in this album...ambitious even! It's of course reminescent of those old ambient tracks I started out with that oozed with clicks, pops and reverb but more refined and explores a lot more instruments and variation in tempo, grooves and vocal treatments. All my favorite genres will probably show their influence...indie, 80's, techno, old country, jazz, classical, drum n' bass, deep house and on and on.

Subscribe to my RSS feed, follow me on twitter or sign up for the mailing list (the form is on the home page, right side) to get the low down on the new album, upcoming shows (this winter/spring!) and what I ate for breakfast.

GOOD TO BE BACK!

From the Depths of My Hard Drive
11.28.09

I've been sorting through my insanely large catalog of unreleased, unfinished and "live only" tracks and after twiddling my thumbs for a bit, decided to upload some. You can find them in the music player on the front page, top left. It's a pretty broad spectrum now from lush downtempo, drum n' bass to idm and frankly it makes me feel a little schitzo!

Patience and Purpose
11.10.08

This past year has been a time for reflection and new direction. Just as things start taking momentum, I've taken a step back to make sure that what I'm doing musically in all aspects feels right especially with my new album and netlabel. In the past, things tended to take off really quickly and losing focus was easy. I believe by taking my time, future projects will be even more creative, inspirational and purposeful.

It's been nearly a year of reorganization of new netlabel, Chasma, and I've decided that all the delay and procrastination is there for a reason, and I've decided to pursue other creative projects...my graphic design and a music/art blog. If you have a Flickr account, please join my little group "Music Space" so you can show off places where you make, create and listen to music. It's just sitting there right now collecting dust but I like planting little seeds and going back to water them. :)

Sunbeams
05.14.08

The days are getting longer, the sun is shinning brighter and it's a productive time of year for me. :) On the docket is of course day dreaming on my album, a remix project for Audiobulb and getting together the first release on my label, Chasma.

You can even read a little blurb about the label/collective in the recent edition of Madison's Isthmus newspaper in the music section. Can't stop, won't stop...fresh to the death!

Upcoming Shows in Madison
04.01.08

Two live shows coming up in Madison at Nat Spill on April 5th and at The Inferno on April 17th. Rawk.

Decided to give Twitter a whirly. Seems like a good place for my randomness. If you have an account, follow me @Samarah

Winter Solitude
11.19.07

I've been taking a break from live performances, its been a busy year for me non-musically with moving, working on launching my own grahic/web design business and taking more time to listen to music than writing it...which is really important because I'm thirsty for inspiration lately.

Net-label Nishi Release
01.9.07

I'm thrilled that Nishi has decided to release my latest ep "Robots Smile Too"! They are a tight knit little Canadian label with a really diverse roster of electronic musicians and definitely worth a visit to harvest some good music for your iPod.

Listen Up for Some Free Christmas Cheer

Feeling a Tad Gemini
11.05.06

Life has been very full lately for me in my graphic design career pursuits ...I've been working at the same job I interned at while in college for too long now and felt it was time to raise the bar for myself. I ended up landing a new job at Punchstock/Getty Images here in Madison and have my plate full with freelance projects too. If that's not enough to keep my head spinning, I also have a radio interview coming up on WSUM on November 12th at 3pm if you're in the Madison area. Sometimes I feel like I'm split right down the middle when it comes to my passion for music vs. design! Oh, and don't forget to stroll on over to the shop to preorder the new ep.

You Know, Robots Smile Too
08.23.06

I have a growing mass of songs and recordings so decided that it's time to put them out there,,, my next ep, "Robots Smile Too", will be released this November on Belladonna Records. Also, my freelance graphic/web design, Stellar Creative Studio, has new digs at www.youarestellar.com.

There is a review up at the blog, "New Albums Galore" of "These Things" EP. New summer live shows , including opening The King Club and with Landau (Merck) at my favorite local cafe, Mother Fool's. Come down and say hello! New photos added to the gallery. But wait, there's more...I have a new track "Human" featured on the new compilation over at Nishi Records celebrating their 100th release. There are over 30 amazing tracks to download...go now!

Belladonna Records Update
06.07.06

Oh joy, warm and long days are upon us! I may be Wisconsin born and bred but I have no interest in snow or having to scrape my car windows every morning, bleh, The new label I co-run, "Belladonna Records" is approaching our first release - a Summer Compilation featuring 19 sweet tracks of local and international downtempo, idm, indiepop and trip hop producers. I just uploaded the website's new design and we are busy sending advance copies out for reviews and distribution and organizing the CD release party which will by Saturday, July 15th at my favorite little wine bar Cafe Montmartre here in Madison.

Say it Aint So! Falling Away Almost Out of Stock
05.01.06

Wow, I just realized that I have only 5 copies of my full-length "Falling Away" (Zod) available. Grab a copy now in the shop because I'm not sure when I'll be getting another run and can't believe how fast they went. Three new shows have been added to the live section - Madison and Milwaukee. I haven't played a proper show since last November so expect a ton of new material and some extra edginess for the Milwaukee kids;)

Everyone Loves Their MAMA (Awards)
03.20.06

This past weekend I was awarded not one, but TWO awards at the Madison Area Awards Show for Best Electronic Album and Best Electronic Artist! I did a little squeal each time my name was announced and when I got up on stage it was so awesome to be acknowledged by my fellow community of musicians and music lovers. I want to thank everyone who voted for little old me...these things are what keep me going :) Luv, Samarah

My New Label, Slew of Releases. How do I Manage to Find Time to Sleep?
03.07.06

Drum roll....welcome to the new site! Inside you'll find tons of good things including secret pong, robots, samples and more. This is my first site in all CSS and Flash so if anything looks super messed up, drop me a note in the new comment area, or just a hello, story, whatever. I'll be adding new tidbits in the near future, so check back often kids! On to what's going on with moi. First off, be sure to check out the label I co-run at belladonnarecords.com. We (my partner in crime is Phil Bryant aka Drumfable) feature lovely electronic, hip hop, glitch, 8 bit and whatever tickles our fancy. I recently redid (more like slaved over) the site design and we are working on releasing our first physical release which is a compilation. More chatter on that later.

Speaking of comps, you'll find a Samarah track on the new Hand Stitched Heart Compilation featuring Accelera Deck, Satellite Grooves, and more. Here at home I was nominated for the Madison Area Music Awards "Best Electronic Album" and also will be presenting that night.

So where is some new music you ask? I recently replaced my laptop and it took awhile geekin' out transferring files, installing programs, etc. so I had some downtime. I've also been busy working on some album artwork over at lovely Audiobulb Records. Believe it or not, there's more, but I'll save it for later as I need to get some more coffee.
